I was recently given a brand new Epson Stylus NX300 Printer/Scanner/Fax,
and have been trying to get it all working properly. Printer functions
are working fine. For the scanning functions, I installed the iscan
package. The device is scanning fine. However, it will only work for
root. This seems rather retarded, a real head scratcher.
How can I get this working as a normal user, since there is no logical
reason why one would need root privileges to use a scanner?
So far, I have added myself to the scanner and saned groups, and made
this entry in /etc/udev/rules.d/z60_libsane.rules
# EPSON Stylus NX300 | EPSON Stylus NX300 | EPSON Stylus NX300
SYSFS{idVendor}=="04b8", SYSFS{idProduct}=="0848", MODE="660",
OWNER="lp", GROUP="scanner", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"
And even went so far as to chmod 0666 /proc/bus/usb/004/007 as per the
instructions in the manual for iscan.
But after all that, I still can't run iscan or otherwise access the
scanner (like through the GIMP plugin) without being root or using sudo.
Is the user in scanner groug?
