I am running Lenny, and when I attempt to post a question by e-mailing
debian-user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, the post never shows up. I send mail from an X
console with /usr/sbin/sendmail. When I check /var/log/mail.log, I see this:

Jan 11 20:33:05 syrano sm-mta[20348]: p0C1X5id020346: \

I do not get an e-mail announcing that it was bounced. The problem started
last May, which may be when my employer (uc.edu) starting prepending a
BATV tag to my e-mail address (prvs=...). I wonder if this tag has something
to do with the "User unknown" complaint. I am not aware that any other
recipients are bouncing my e-mails.

My wife also works at uc.edu. She uses Windows 7 and Outlook. She succeeded
in posting a test mail today:
Subject: Please ignore this test.
but when she tried to send the real question it also was never posted. Her
e-mails to me also show a BATV tag on the "From:" line of the mail header.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get my e-mails accepted at this
group. Thanks.

Steve Kleene (skdeb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

Looks like the bounced message gets redirected to
"prvs=986f23af3=skdeb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" and such user (or expanded
address) does not exist neither as alias nor as normal mailbox and this
is something the mail admins of the "syrano.acb.uc.edu" site should
check.

OTOH, I would contact the Debian mailing list admin
(listmaster[at]lists.debian.org) so he/she can check the internal mailing
lit server logs to find out why are your messages bounced.

In the meantime, you can try to use another e-mail account (aka: another
smtp server) for posting or even use the Gmane web interface:

http://news.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.user

Remember that you are not required to be subscribed to the list for
sending e-mails.

Greetings,
