ok, things are just getting worse. as a really basic test, i
tried to dummy write by adding "-dummy" to the cdrecord command.
this caused the cdrecord operation to hang entirely at track 0,
and literally forced me to do a powerdown/reboot to get my laptop
back.
this was using an explicit writing speed of 1, even though one
would think this wouldn't be necessary when doing a dummy run.
argh.
