Just to follow-up on this posting: Acroread and Konqueror play together
well. For example, when I open this location in Konqueror, Acroread
properly opens and displays the .pdf file:

    http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/runux4/chapter/ch15.pdf

The same action in Mozilla 1.6 pops open the previously mentioned error box.

However, if I save the file locally, Acroread has no trouble displaying
the file's contents. This leads me to believe there is something fishy
    with the plug-in for Mozilla.

    Any thoughts?

In the event, that I can't get this figured out, I'd still like to learn
how to get Mozilla to use xpdf as the default .pdf viewer.

    Thanks,
    Clint
