For some simple things I use "at".
I have a little bash script called "meeting" that sends a text (mail)
message to my phone/pager and can pop up a little window on the
screen. Looks like...
$ at 14:00
at> meeting Call Brain 555-121
at> <EOT>
job 210 at 2004-08-08 14:00
I use my palm or other schedule tool (included paper) to keep track of
things and in the morning do the "at" thing.
Look at jpilot and friends. For many things you do not need the
hand held ;-)
Look also at KOrganizer and friends.
