    Good Morning everyone,

I've decided to try and use YUM. I read up on it a little bit and
downloaded the yum.conf for fedora from Redhat's website. When I run yum
check-update, I get the below output saying that the page cannot be
found. When I plug the URL (at least the first one), It cannot be found.
if I remove the end of the URL all the way to the /RPMS.stable/
sections, I get a list of RPMS, but no headers folder. If I change the
url to reflect /fedora/2/ instead of /fedora/1/, I can see a headers
folder. Is there another working mirror, or do I need to upgrade to FC2?

    Thanks everyone,

    Mike

    You check the signatures.

If you trust that the CD images you downloaded aren't tampered with, you
have all you need. Install GnuPG from CD if it isn't installed already,
and import Redhat's keys from the RPM-GPG-KEY files into RPM. Then turn
on signature checking in Yum and Up2date.

You may need some more information to help diagnose the problem. Try
running mozilla from the command line to browse to the site(s) that are
crashing. (Maybe it's just bad coding on the site -- that is what is
happening with my ISP's webmail service!).

    You can also run
    strace mozilla http://sitenamegoeshere.com
to see if there are any bits of data that are helpful.

Because its the file presented as default when typeing 'man crontab',
and it tells you absolutely nothing of value other than the authors
name and copyright date. The brief description of its intended use
is so terse it doesn't enhance ones knowledge in any other way.

That said, what I'd really like to see a text someplace that defines
what manpage goes where, as that would help to prevent my confusion
in the future. And that of course is the real problem, the "dumb old
fart" syndrome. :-( The fact that I wrote a clone of it in MC6809EP
assembly to run on os9 systems 17 years ago has long since faded from
my memory banks. Sad, but true.

The headers for FC1 goodies are located in a slightly different url
"style" than those for FC2 -- use this yum.conf for starters, and you'll
    see what I mean:

After tuning the ACPI/whatever on the BIOS, the newer kernels are
working fine and dandy. With just one exception, but I'm sure it's
    simple.
kernel-2.6.8-1.521 seems to be perfect. In fact, just like the
previous problem, it's probably a matter of tuning the scheduler, since
    I've not touched it.
NO, OpenGL is working just fine in hardware.
During gameplay, I see a *THREE SECOND* delay, repeated many times
over a short game, making it very unplayable. Nothing else is running
during this time; not playing mp3s, serving any files (the kids are
asleep) and it happens at any time of the day.
But since the latest fix was to the interrupt-system, maybe I need
to set some priorities? The game offers no error messages...it's just
losing timeslices here and there. There's nothing awry in
    /var/log/messages.
Is this something new that people need to set for various
    performance levels under different loads?

No, there is noise even when all the inputs are muted bare from PCM

The noise is still there, louder then the sound I want to hear.
again, under Red Hat Linux 7.3 and windows there is no noise but under
fedora 2 there is, even though I have muted the inputs and set the
    volume at 70%.
Is there another sound system to use or newer drivers! (This system

    Good day,

I check the archived and probably over looked.
I can connect my port 25 if I use the terminal on the localhost (Linux box),

point to mail, and mail is there in my /bin, I bet you this is something

pretty easy to do this if not exactly the way you want, setup your dmz
machine to answer for your domains(mx), then use transport maps to send
all mail for those domains to your specified host. This is with postfix,
    postmap transport after your finished.

Yep, that was the problem. I dropped back down to 2.6.7-1.456 and now I
    can burn CDs again.
    Thanks!

I was having a sound problem too. I don't know what you mean by noise,
but I was getting a static hiss out of the left speaker that wouldn't go
away unless I turned my speakers off. I did a google search and found
the answer. If your running Gnome, click on the volume icon in your
system panel and go to properties. Turn the volume all the way down on
the digital-1 channel. In KDE, run kmix and turn off IEC958 in the
    advanced menu.

If I understand your problem correctly, you can't connect to sendmail from
    other machines ?
If that is the case, stop sendmail, look in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf for:
    # SMTP daemon options
    O DaemonPortOptions=Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA
    and change it to:
    O DaemonPortOptions=Port=smtp,Addr=0.0.0.0, Name=MTA
That will tell sendmail to accept connections from any IP.
    Start sendmail and try
    # telnet mailsrv 25
    from other machines.
I assume you can also set the DaemonPortOptions to accept only mail from
i.e. 192.168.*.* . Have a look in the manual - I've not tried this yet.
    Cheers,
    Hannes.

Thanks to Andrew Konosky for solving my problem :)
The Noise is a hiss that comes out the speakers.
    Andre suggested:
In KDE, run kmix and turn off IEC958 in the advanced menu.
    THANKS
    Jason Cole :)

Without relaxing your security policy between dmz->green (even during a
specifed timeslot), I don't see that you have much choice but to use a
program like fetchmail to pull (download) your e-mail from the DMZ server.
If I had to deal with a security policy such as yours, I would look at
configuring the DMZ mail server to store all inbound e-mail in a single
mailbox (single password vs. multiple), then use fetchmail's multi-drop
feature to retrieve e-mail from your DMZ server and then store the retrieved
e-mail in individual mailboxes on the green server. See "man fetchmail" for
examples of using multi-drop and especially the USER AUTHENTICATION AND
ENCRYPTION section for password encryption between the green server and DMZ
server. Another option might be to create an SSH tunnel between the
green->DMZ server to pull your queued e-mail.
You know, if you were willing to relax your security policy for a given
timeslot (like a cronjob), you could configure your DMZ MTA to use a
"deferred" queue, then issue an ETRN (during the cronjob) to release/deliver
your e-mail to the green server.
