Try booting without rhgb and quiet on the kernel command line. There
was an earlier issue with rhgb and dri. I cannot remember the details.
One other thing: If you boot into runlevel 3 and then enter runlevel 5
does X start? BTW: Runlevel 3 also stops rhgb from running.
