tried it...
didn't work.
the issue i'm seeing seems to point directly to the system not booting up if
the monitor is not attached!!!!
i plug the monitor in.. the server boots.. i unplug the monitor.. the server
stops/hangs during the boot process...

Bruce,
1) when booting, edit the kernel line and add your parameter
or,
2) edit /etc/grub.conf and add the parameter to the kernel line
