The following audio device was detected.
    Vendor: Silicon
Model: Integrated Systems [SiS] Sound Controller
    Module: snd-intel8x0

    from the terminal:
    -------------------
    [thufir@localhost ~]$ uname -a
    Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.9-1.667 #1 Tue Nov 2 14:41:25 EST 2004
    i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
    [thufir@localhost ~]$ cat /proc/version
    Linux version 2.6.9-1.667 (bhcomp...@tweety.build.redhat.com) (gcc
    version 3.4.2 20041017 (Red Hat 3.4.2-6.fc3)) #1 Tue Nov 2 14:41:25 EST

    I'm looking at <http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Sound-HOWTO/x320.html#AEN415>,
but it seems to be about recompiling the kernel. since the test sound
was working just last week, and I haven't done anything to the kernel,
that doesn't seem to apply. Real Player 10 played a .wav file last
week, I don't believe I installed any software since.

    thanks,

    Thufir
