    Other users on this machine? If not, you might try creating a new
    user, loggin in as that new user, start up kmail, and see if the
    same error happens. If so, it isn't related to the login account
    settings, perhaps a more general problem with the kmail
    installation.

    Hopefully Alexander's suggestion will shed a little more light too.
