/Proc tape backup

    Hello,
     I've seen on /var/log/messages this thing (it's a IDE tapeback-uo)
    "Sep 25 02:47:06 constellation kernel: hdc: ECRIX VXA-1a, ATAPI TAPE drive"
     But there is no hdc in /dev/
    Why i idi a locate on hdc and found this !
    "/proc/ide/hdc
    /proc/ide/ide1/hdc
    /proc/ide/ide1/hdc/settings
    /proc/ide/ide1/hdc/model
    /proc/ide/ide1/hdc/media
    /proc/ide/ide1/hdc/identify
    /proc/ide/ide1/hdc/driver

     Can you tell me why we don't see it on dev,
    and how can i see it
    !
