Dear all,working
I am having trouble with Imagemagick. I can use
import, convert commands but display is not
correctly. It gives error message.
[tonio@localhost Documents]$ display factoring.png
display: unable to load font
`-*-helvetica-medium-r-normal--12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1'.display: unable to load font
`-*-helvetica-medium-r-normal--12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1'.[tonio@localhost Documents]$ display Fedora\ 5\
x86_DVD.jpg
display: unable to load font
`-*-helvetica-medium-r-normal--12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1'.display: unable to load font

I guess helvetica fonts are not installed. I went
ImmageMagick website and found resources page
Works for me -- *unless* I disable xfs.
Do you have xfs running?
$ ps -ef | grep xfs
xfs 2160 1 0 18:52 ? 00:00:00 xfs
-droppriv -daemon
james 9138 9044 0 21:15 pts/2 00:00:00 grep
xfs
If I remember correctly, not having xfs running
won't hurt for most
programs. But ImageMagick uses the older fonts
system: see for example
(this
topic is not dealt with in the FC5 release notes).
Helvetica *should* be there on your system. Which
fonts RPMs do you
have? I know I've got more than the default, but
I've got:
bitmap-fonts-0.3-5.1.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-base-7.0-3.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-Type1-7.0-3.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-100dpi-7.0-3.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-75dpi-7.0-3.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-truetype-7.0-3.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-75dpi-7.0-3.noarch
urw-fonts-2.3-6.1.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-100dpi-7.0-3.noarch
ghostscript-fonts-5.50-13.1.noarch
bitstream-vera-fonts-1.10-5.1.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-misc-7.0-3.noarch

Thanks James for answering this question. I thought
that the message was lost/not important enought to be
answered. I must be honest and let you know that I
need to install FC5 as this happens on FC5T2 with some
updates not all are possible since this machine is on
dialup.
[tonio@localhost ~]$ ps -ef | grep xfs
xfs 2094 1 0 20:14 ? 00:00:01 xfs
-droppriv -daemon
tonio 3177 3156 0 20:44 pts/2 00:00:00 grep
xfs
[tonio@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa xorg-x11-fonts*
xorg-x11-fonts-base-1.0.0-2
[tonio@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa bitmap-fonts*
bitmap-fonts-0.3-5.1
[tonio@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa urw-fonts*
urw-fonts-2.3-6.1
[tonio@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa ghostscript-fonts*
ghostscript-fonts-5.50-13.1
[tonio@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa bitstream-vera-fonts*
bitstream-vera-fonts-1.10-5.1
[tonio@localhost ~]$
I did not test everything as I should have done, I
forgot about display, convert, and other stuff with
other programs. I updated the kernel and tried to get
slmodemd, to work with the fedora test kernels for
which none worked after the initial kernel that FC5T2
came with
(
[tonio@localhost ~]$ uname -r
2.6.15-1.1826.2.10_FC5
). I need to update this machine to FC5 or test it
with another since I am happy with the way it runs
despite not having it fully updated.
Regards,
Antonio
