Re: FC5 X can not started, it just black screen

hello,

I can't use system-config-display to reconfig the monitor.
after I followed http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=68681
, when I try to startX, X will freeze. luckily, when I delete the file
/etc/X11/xorg.conf, now it works!!!!

Thank you all, now my FC5 works ok with almost all the multimedia
plugins installed. only two problem:

1.How to play WMV format video in webpages;
2.The FC5 is not so fast as I would expected, I am running FC5 i386
(32bit on 64 bit arch)on athlon64 3000+ with 1G RAM.How can I fine
tuning it to run more fast? Although I can accept its speed.

First the file you want is not XF86Config , it is /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Second if you are in int level 3 you can run system-config-display to
configure the display parameters. This is preferable to having to edit
the file itself, which should be you last resort.

Unfortunately, system-config-display has to be able to start X in order
to work -- at least in interactive mode. Not sure who thought this was
a good idea.

But, remember that you can do "system-config-display --reconfig" to have
it probe for settings to use to bring up that interactive mode X based
screen, rather than the borked settings in the xorg.conf. Not that I'm
arguing that this was a good idea.... <big grin>
