GDM (Gosh Darned Mangler)

What is with this:
May 15 00:50:12 iam gdm[10109]: gdm_config_parse: Standard X server not
found; trying alternatives

For the last week, my X sessions have been locking up hard, in no
particular place, time or application. It just seizes up and does not
restore itself, even after I have walked off and away for several hours.
It might as well be the Blue Screen of Death. Anyone have a clue towards
this error message? Thanx, Ric
