What is with this:

For the last week, my X sessions have been locking up hard, in no
particular place, time or application. It just seizes up and does not
restore itself, even after I have walked off and away for several hours.
It might as well be the Blue Screen of Death. Anyone have a clue towards
this error message? Thanx, Ric

Hardware? FC versions? drivers used? configuration?

Your problem doesn't sound like a GDM problem.... sound like a
hardware / video driver one. But without additional information, my
guess is as good as yours.
