A bit confused, RPM was downloaded straight from http://
download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/5/SRPMS/

Can anybody point me in the right direction to trace this error? Am a
bit lost - never had an RPM issue like this - nowt in dmesg or /var/
log/messages.

Strange, I could install the same src rpm few days ago and compile it.
Do you have custom rpmbuild settings or not installed fedora-rpmdevtools?
