I have a Dell Latitude D820 and all I did was follow the instructions on
this website http://mysite.verizon.net/vze2j8bn/D820-FC5.html to get my
sound working. I can switch between headphones with out any problems.

Currently running Kernel 2.6.16-1.2133_FC5smp, and the only problem I have
is I got the BCM4311 wireless card which I am having a few little problems
with.
