Sylpheed-Claws

Last time I tried installing <http://claws.sylpheed.org/downloads.php>
from the devel yum repo, it screwed up X windows.
I've downloaded the RPM from
<http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/extras/development/i386/>
and plan to do a local install via yum of this RPM. Is this the
safest way to install risky packages?
