I sent this off to the list about 6 weeks ago and have not seen any
replies, so I assume that the answer to my "Has anybody else seen
this?" question is "no". :-)

In the mean time, I would like to change my question to "Can anybody
help me figure out how to resolve this?"

It still happens occasionally... often enough that it's annoying, but
not often enough that I can predict when it will or won't happen.
When it happened just this morning, I ran strace on the hung process
and saw that bonobo-activation-server looks like it's stuck in a loop.
