Given my level of skill I am probably best to wait a few more days for
the next kernel release. I can live with needing to remount the flash
drive for a few days. Fortunately I am not using that other OS that
seems to require several reboots a day sometimes.

Try plugging it in to a different USB port...it worked for me.
