You are going to have to run something to use with the webcam, and whatever
you choose you will need to run some setup or config option, or how will it
find your camera? When I had problems I did find that running the various
video apps from a terminal brought me some clues.

I ran camstream, xawtv, spcaview, spcagui and others but all failed because
they didn't found /dev/video*
