Here's mine:

$ cat /etc/fonts/local.conf
<dir>/usr/local/share/fonts</dir>

I keep stuff like that under /usr/local on a separate partition so I can
easily clean-install around it, or use it in a dual-boot setup.

Sometimes error messages are very misleading. I initially tried adding two
additional folders, both with identical (spaced) lines. The error report
referred only to the second one, so I assumed that the first one must have
been right.
