rtl8139 rtl8111 (realtek) lan drivers

Hi,

FC6
asus p5b-vm motherboard

the realtek nic doesn't want to work
tried another card - which uses rtl 8139 drivers

no luck getting either to send more than 1kb/sec
can't ping

there is a realtek driver patch dated 2006/4/24
how can I find if it needs to be applied?
