I had all ready installed that package. It was late last
night and was not thinking clearly. Not quite sure what
directory they are in.

After much tinkering I gave up at about 5am this morning and
went to bed, thinking a clear head would be more productive.
Switched the machine on this morning and hey presto the blue
light on the us dvb box came on. Fired up kaffeine and
clicked on the dvb icon at the intro window and it now sees
the dvb box. Did a scan and found a long list of channels.
Yahoo! Now all I have to do is install the missing codacs to
view tv and listen to radio. ;-( -- registered Linux user

Unit is now working after some fun and games with codacs! Now
it won't work in windows and I see it has changed from a800 to
a801, which is probably whats confusing windows

Latest update...
Linux seems to load a firmware to change the unit from a800 to
a801, which means windoz sees it as a new device during start
up and can't find any drivers for it (as its now a a801 not
a800). I tried to manually install the original ones off the
disk and some updated ones off the Avermedia's web site but
windoz won't have it. I shut down the pc and went and made a
cup of tea. when I got back I noticed the usb box still had its
blue light on. It was still powered up! unplugging the usb
cable from the box powered it down and booting into windozs it
worked again. Rebooted into Fedora and it didnt work! Dmesg
showed it had been recognised and the firmware had been loaded,
so rebooted back into Fedora and its working. Just got to get
the remote working now!

Hey guys,

I have the same DVB box but my one doesn't seem to work at all.
The kernel modules get loaded fine and firmware is also being
found by the modules. However the devices in /dev are not being
created.

I am running FC5 with Kernel 2.6.17-1.2174_FC5, I also tried on
FC6 with the latest kernel default kernel and the devices were
not created either.

Would any of you have any ideas as to why it is not working?

Do you run windoz as well, does it have any problems with it? Is
the blue light on the front of the box come on when running FC.
What does dmesg say

No I don't run windows and the blue light never comes on.

This is what my dmesg says, there are also some usb messages that I
couldn't find as I got these ones from the message log file and not
the dmesg.

dvb-usb: found a 'AVerMedia AverTV DVB-T USB 2.0 (A800)' in cold
state, will try to load a firmware
dvb-usb: downloading firmware from file 'dvb-usb-avertv-a800-02.fw'

When you boot FC before you log in do a reboot and then log in. You
should find the blue light comes on and stays on even when machine is
shut down. You should only need to do this once as long as the machine
is left plugged into the mains and the mains is switched on. Then after
doing the second boot it gives this:

dvb-usb: AVerMedia AverTV DVB-T USB 2.0 (A800) successfully initialized
and connected.
usbcore: registered new driver dvb_usb_a800

So what you are saying is that my AverTV box will only work if I start up
my machine with it connected to the USB port. If I just plug it won't
work straight away, is it correct?

Yes leave it plugged in, (make sure its in a usb2 socket) you need to do a
reboot the first time to warm up the unit. Once you have done that the blue
light stays on even when you shut down the machine, like the mouse and
keyboard light stays on when the machine is powered down, well my newer
machines do. I have some old and ancient machines here! I'm off to bed now
but will follow the thread latter tomorrow. Good luck.

It worked, I must say that it is not making much sense to me though. As a USB
device it should start working when it is plugged into the port. I think if
we restart udev after the AverTV box is connected it may turn the box on.
Apart from having to restart my machine to make it work, everything else
looks very good. The image and sound are awesome and I can tune many more
channels than I could with my conventional TV.

The only thing that is not working though, is the remote control. Does yours
work at all?
