Open a terminal and start xmms from there, you may get some information
about why you are having problems (xmms and Selinux have been having
problems for a while, though I don't recall having any in FC6)
Go to the preferences in XMMS and disable the mp3 placeholder plugin.
I can't speak much of Audacious, but there exists the possibility that
as it is a fork of a fork of xmms that you have replaced some of xmms
with a slightly different file from audacious, which is causing problems
with both. Recommend you get rid of both and re-install only one of them.
