Are you in NZ or AU?
cat /etc/resolve.conf
should reveal the isps IP's if you want to make sure Fedora is using those.
Thanks

Thanks Shams.
My ISP "stated" that a secondary DNS Server is not necessary and that I
should just use the one as a primary. They must be confident that the
one they have is doing a really great job!! ;-)
I changed the router setting from AUTO to use USER specified lookup when
I added the NZ DNS Server.
Will try disabling IPv6 in Firefox as suggested.
Thanks again.
Cheers
John.

No, add your ISP's primary and secondary DNS servers ie. Don't
let your router to an "automatic" lookup BUT you should provide
the dns servers ips manually in the routers config. I am sure a good
router will allow you to do this via it http interface. But a good router
will also not have a buggy dns server ;-).
The other thing you can try is disabling IPv6 in FireFox. If it allows
you
you to access/browse more sites, then it is definately a problem with
your routers DNS server...

What router are you using, D-Link ones are know to be buggy in NZ?
Thanks

Thanks Mate! That's helped quite a bit. I added one of New Zealand's
DNS Server to the MODEM / Router's config and have managed to access a
lot more websites. Still not able to access every site I try though.
In most cases, if not all, entering the IP address rather than the URL,
works.
My Son uses XP on the same Router and doesn't have the same problem but
does have timeouts occasionally. Seems as if the ISP here has a DSN
Server that needs a bit of TLC. ;-)
Thanks to everyone who made suggestions, I tried everything and have
learnt a fair bit along the way.
Cheers
John.

Hi,
I had the same problem in Fedora 6. I figured out finally that it was
something to do with my routers built-in buggy DNS server and IPv6.
For this same router in AU there was a upgradable firmware but not
for NZ without voiding the warranty.
So I solved it by going into the routers config and changed the DNS
servers from my routers default to my ISP's, everything now seems
to work fine.
You can try something similar and see if it works.
Thanks

Hi,
Hope someone can help me.
I've recently moved from New Zealand to Australia and have obviously
changed ISPs.
I'm unable to connect to certain websites, yet have no problem
connecting
to others. The firewall settings appear to be OK on the ADSL MODEM
as
well as on my PC. The support guy I spoke to at the ISP has no
LINUX
experience.
I've also tried different browsers, no luck.
Suggestions / Help would be appreciated please!
Cheers
John.
