Usually indicates a bad disc, but if you've got a bad power supply or a
bad cable, you could have similar induced errors. I don't know whether
incorrect jumpering of the drives (master/slave/etc) might cause error
messages like that, too.
I've never seen incorrect jumpering produce these messages. Since the OP has already tried with different 'good' hard drives, I would advise changing the cable.
