Grub inacuracies

I am reading info grub and when I got to making a grub bootable cd-rom I just checked and one file you needed was from /usr/lib/grub/ which doesn't exist on FC6. On a chance I tried /usr/share/grub/ and that will work.
So far the reading has me afraid to try anything :-[
They say you can sure screw up the system without even trying. This is why I *think* I want a CD-Rom with Grub on it to recover from disaster. But even this is not certain yet.
Has anyone else tried to work with Grub?
Karl
