Patrick Quinn's primary language, on a balance of probabilities, is most
likely English.
Point the first: Both his first and last name is of Irish origin. It is
extremely unlikely, though not completely impossible, that his first
language spoken is Gaelic. Ireland has two official languages, though,
English and Gaelic. However, Gaelic is a minority language even in Ireland
and most references state that the official languages are "English and
Gaelic" rather than "Gaelic and English".
Point the second: Mr. Quinn's message showed a greater-than-minimal grasp
of the English language; the phrasing and format demonstrated carelessness
rather than a lack of knowledge, and the signs of great effort normally
seen in a post by a non- or minimal-English speaker were not present in his
message.
Point the third: No capitalization and minimal punctuation were present in
Mr. Quinn's message. This is a further indication of carelessness rather
than a lack of knowledge, and betrays a lack of any serious attempt to make
his message correct in any way. Speed over accuracy, as the old saying
goes.
Accordingly, Gene Heskett's response was completely appropriate in this
particular instance.
In my humble opinion, of course.

a package called fuse-kmdl (I got it from atrpms) to add this

While the grammar was poor in the original message, it doesn't hurt that
Gene pointed it out. However, that would be the least of my "worries".
I would think about the following....
1. The "blackhat" project is based on "reactos" which is itself in alpha
release. Not sure why anyone would start a project based on alpha
software.
2. The OP asks "i was wondering if you would be willing to put your
name...". Now is he asking for the "Fedora Project" to put its name on it
or every individual on the mailing list. I get the feeling he really means
the "Fedora Project" since he is trying to entice with "permenant ad space"
and other gifts for minor help. (I copied and pasted...so spelling and
grammatical errors remain.) If he is asking for endorsement from the
Fedora Project then I wonder why he posted to this public list.
3. "unmistakeable fedora charm"? Trying to flatter us?
For Frank Cox....the originating IP for the OP is 86.42.209.231 and indeed
it is located in Ireland. The message was sent at 2AM GMT. One could
suggest the grammar was impaired by Guinness? :-)

Is there a Fedora program which will record DVD metadata
(preferably in XML format)
when one inserts a DVD in a DVD reader?
IIRC, ifoinfo can output to XML - otherwise you can try lsdvd (not sure
about this latter).

To some point I agree, however that letter - like one or two others we
see from time to time on this list - is awfully confusing as to what it
really means. E-mails for help do need to be clearly understandable, at
least, even if not brilliantly typed.
That one reminded me of the software brags we'd see for the old Amiga
software in the 1980s. Either written by some German who hadn't
succeeded in translating to English, or some young teenager who'd never
have made it through school. Some of it was just plain bizarre.

Here's the narrative:
1] this is the DHCP/DSL box from Qwest.
2] this is a Linksys WRT54G wireless broadband router
3] this is a Meraki wireless access point/router
4] this is a desktop workstation
5] this is an asterisk-dedicated desktop for calling/receiving calls
with softphone
The DHCP/DSL device is already configured and working. I'm thinking I
have to configure the two desktops before I plug them into the router.
Can anyone list the info and where I enter it in FC6 to be permanent
changes?
I agree with Frank that the extra wireless gadget seems strangely
redundant. Though, if you were planning to share the network, it could
well be best if that second wireless gateway had a separate IP so that
you can filter things off. You don't want to share all your private
stuff publically.
If your DHCP/DSL box has its own IP, you'd use that IP as the default
gateway address to be configured into the router. And you'd use the
router's IP as the default gateway address to be configured into the
other gear. Likewise, the router is probably going to act as the DNS
server for the rest of your network. Does your router not come with a
configuration manual?
Chances are that your router can configure all that automatically over
DHCP, and you only need to set all your clients to use DHCP to set up
their networking (e.g. use one of the network configuration GUIs on each
client). If so, you can probably configure client addresses in your
router's DHCP server, so that it doles out the same addresses to the
same equipment each time.
I think it's important that you understand those sorts of concepts
(whether using automatic or static configuration, where you're doing the
configuration - centrally or one each device, etc., the relationship of
how the traffic flows through where) before you work out the specifics.

Has anybody tried using sweep lately on FC7? It crashes as soon as you
try to play a file. If I run it from the command line, no matter what
audio file I try, this is the result:
[tim@bigblack ~]$ sweep-audio-editor
sweep: alsa_setup: audio interface does not support host endian 32 bit
float samples (Invalid argument)
Floating point exception
It used to work, but I can't remember how long ago that was. I have the
same situation on two different computers, so I think it's probably not
just my hardware. Though I would like to try and confirm that before I
go bugzilla-ing.

Nobody's saying it's not a problem. If everyone had the problem, it
probably would have been fixed before release. Therefore, it probably
works for most people.
If you gave out a but more information, it might help.
What CPU?
Intel Core Duo T2450 @ 2 Ghz
32-bit or 64-bit?
32bit
If 64-bit, do you have 32-bit installed too?
Are you fully up2date? The question's irrelevant if not.
I check for updates every day.
Hope this helps.

I could not agree with you more Karl. Over the years on different
distro's I've got the sound sorted, and now pulse audio is brought into
the equation,
and wants to screw the sound up again. I'm sure there are probably some
benefits to using pulseaudio, but at the moment all I want is my sound to
work, and pulseaudio on F8 is messing with it.
The only thing you accomplish removing alsa-plugins-pulseaudio
is the suppression of this file:
[cascavel:/etc/alsa] more pulse-default.conf
# pulseaudio plugin configuration
pcm.!default {
type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
type pulse
}
It gives you the default for alsa. If you create a ~/.asoundrc
for your needs it will produce the same result.
I won't go into the problems I'm having with udev in the ordering of
video devices for my webcam, and tvcard. that's for another day. All I
can say is
that pre udev kernels always order the tvcard as /dev/video0, and the
webcam
as /dev/video1, but it's really hit and miss with kernels that use udev.
I've
reached the stage where I have 2 desktop icons for Xawtv. 1 pointing
to /dev/video0, and the other to /dev/video1. I'm watching the Marx
brothers
on the TV at the mo, and this sounds like a Marx Bros situation. If one
don't
work try the other.
You need to create some udev rules:
