I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147 laptop with a standard Fedora 8It would help to know what audio the laptop has. You may need to add
installation (except for the madwifi driver set) and the sound on it
doesn't seem to work. I get kernel messages like this, and a Skype test
call doesn't work.
Dec 7 17:42:04 eng2 pulseaudio[2949]: alsa-util.c: Device hw:0 doesn't
support 44100 Hz, changed to 48000 Hz.

Any suggestions for how to fix this?
Thanks

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
and post the results? This helps us sort out which of the plethora of

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec

I hope this helps?
Well, according to that, it's only seeing the modem part of your
sound card. It's not seeing the audio bit (and I should have caught
that from your lspci output).
So, something is very weird. I think F8 uses alsa 1.0.15 and it should
detect the chipset. The on-board sound is enabled in the BIOS, right?
The laptop model is actually a P105-S6147, not a P107-S6147 as my subject line is erroneously stating. I had recently done a BIOS update to BIOS version 4.00 for this machine. When I looked in the BIOS options, I couldn't find one for enabling on-board sound. And I can't remember whether I tested the audio under Windows Vista before, or after, I did the BIOS update. I think it was before.
Also, I'm fairly certain there is only one keyboard shortcut for the audio, Fn-and a little graphic for speakers, which seems to mute the "Master" control or turn it back on. I'll double-check the documentation. Pulseaudio is still complaining that it can't find the "Capture" control.
Could I have made a mess of the audio with the BIOS update? Perhaps I should backgrade the BIOS.
