azureus v3.0.3.4: Initialization fails

Hi all,

A new version of Azureus has appeared in the repos, and if version
numbers are anything to go by -- v2.5.0.4 --> v3.0.3.4 -- it looks
like a major upgrade. However it doesn't run on my system:

$ azureus &
[1] 18615
[colin@ariel ~]$ [GUI] Initialization fails:
DEBUG::Wed Jan 16 01:56:59 CET

Any ideas on what is going on here?
