Re: Fedora-9 + KDE minor issue #5

there are a number of features that are simply missing on KDE-4...I

- you can't jump to files on the desktop by pressing the first letter on
the keyboard.
- desktop icon alignment options are weak.

While I agree with all of this I do feel fairly certain that this is just the
phase of development and it will improve.

Another thing and I'm not certain that it's KDE-4 but I think it is...is
that starting applications from the taskbar isn't reliable and neither
is switching between applications by clicking on their icons in the
taskbar. I have had a few moments of seemingly hanging when switching
applications via the taskbar. At those moments, X and Plasma seem to be
using excessive cycles and have even had to force an X quit several
times since installing Fedora 9.

I had no problems of that sort until about a week ago. I'm convinced that a
bug has been introduced in a recent update, but it's hard to work out where
the problem is.

Yes, there are some minor annoyances...as Tim points out, I don't get
the multiple tabbed Konsole restored but only 1 instance with 1 tab when
re-entering my Desktop.

Saving sessions is not yet implemented. Again, I think it will resolve
itself. My own preference for konsole was to be able to open a root session
with a different theme, so that if I know I am going to need quite a few root
commands I can do so without closing the window. With help I now have that
working. From the menu I can open Root and the correct colouring appears,
together with a prompt for the root password.

To Tim...it's not that things are feebler or have disappeared for any
reason...there actually is a reason and that the benefits of the
re-write of KDE aren't apparent yet and so if you expected to see
progress at this point, you will be disappointed. I am however, keeping
the faith.

I think it will be a long time before we have the full benefit, but things are
just going to creep up on us. Eventually we will start realising that things
that bugged us back in April and May don't happen any more :-)
