might be useful to look at output of

rpm -Vq gdm

I have no idea what it means! ;)

man rpm:

S file Size differs
M Mode differs (includes permissions and file type)
5 MD5 sum differs
D Device major/minor number mismatch
L readLink(2) path mismatch
U User ownership differs
G Group ownership differs
T mTime differs

patrick...if the guy is too lazy to type 'man rpm' instead of typing to
the list, 5 times the amount of characters and waiting for someone on
the list to tell him, you really didn't do the list any favors by giving
him the contents.
