The range factor would be because bluetooth was conceived as a
low-power, short range protocol. If I remember from my wireless sales
days (yes, I used to be one of those vultures), the maximum recommended
distance between bluetooth nodes is ~30ft.
As far as sound quality, yes, from my experience, the more you spend,
the better the sound quality. Check reviews online first though.
