I did change the root command line by hitting 'e' in GRUB from(different to the kernel panic)
root (hd0,0) to:
root (hd0,1) -> Error 17: cannot mount selected partition
root (hd1,0) -> Error 15: File not found
root (hd1,1) -> Error 22: No such partition
From these error messages it is possible to return to the GRUB menu
The old F13 kernel, which are booting partly but failing with somegraphic card problems include root hd(0,0), also.
Run a LiveCD, open a terminal and send us the results of this command:
fdisk -l
(That's a lower case L, not a 1, BTW.) That will tell us how your disk
is partitioned and which partition has Linux on it.
