I have an external usb HD (500Go) which I partionned (with fdisk) like this:
/dev/sdx1 ~20Go: ntfs
/dev/sdx2 rest of disk: ext3
If I use df -h, I get:
/dev/sdb2 439G 44G 374G 11% /media/linux
/dev/sdb1 21G 66M 20G 1% /media/ntfs
(today x=b!) the total 439+21= 460 so missing 40Go

harddrive manufactureres use 1KB = 1000 bytes,
fdisk & df use 1KB = 1024 bytes.
