Well yes, but I can think of a few applications which chose not to
describe themselves succinctly.

Indeed, and I think the distinction makes sense in the .desktop files.
But I wonder: If a user wants to add a new launcher, does the user care
about the distinction between name and comment, or would a general
name/comment/label entry be sufficient?
