* What are the possible types? If it's just "Application" and
"Application in Terminal" I would rather suggest a discreet
checkbox. Also then I don't think it needs a prominent placement
right at the top of the dialog.
When editing an application launcher, there are two possible types. So a
checkbox might make sense there. But when creating a new launcher, you
also have a third type (link, or file) and in this case, the checkbox
would be greyed out.
Ah, that means you still have the same dialog for executable and link
launchers. I thought you had two different ones.
The idea comes from Paolo. IMHO, it's a good way to not prominently
mention the terminal.
I wonder whether this might not have another effect: Now the user might
wonder what options there are and open the types popup. That would mean
that the user is not only exposed to the word "Terminal", but has
another step to do to get there.
Just a general note, because it came up in the bug report IIRC: The
whole terminal business is a bit unfortunate. On the other hand I think
the ability to run applications in a terminal window in (still)
important. There is probably a noticeable percentage of our user base
that need this. For example until recently I used mutt (and still
consider going back to it from Evolution). I need an easy way to create
a launcher for that program as well. I think many other users (not only
power users, but a lot of intermediate users as well) have similar needs
and I think the possible confusion for inexperienced users is offset by
that.
* In the link editor "URL" is probably the wrong term. Also, it
doesn't sound as if you could enter a file name here. Maybe use
a type chooser in this dialog? Or change the text entry label to
"Address/File:" and the button text to "Choose file..."?
Hrm... What types would you propose?
"File" and "Web Address". I don't know whether this a good idea though.
Maybe just use "Location" on the URL entry like Alan suggested and be
done with it?
