of them probably the missing mixer icon.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I've played with it enough to determine that's got to be the problem. I was wondering if there's a way to provide an icon for applets outside of the theme itself. If there was a directory where I could drop a gnome-volume-applet.png file or something, I could fix this myself.
