Unable to login after screen is locked

Hi,
I have devloped a problem with my debian etch gnome. Whenever I lock the
screen I am unable to log back in. It keeps telling me incorrect password no
matter which account I use. I have to stop gdm to be able to login. Can
anyone help me with this problem? It is not a wrong passord problem.
