Re: Gnome problem after upgrading from FC6 to FC7

Hello Ritish,

Please accept my apologies for taking so long to execute your instructions
(I finally have the 'failsafe' session available)

I have attached two files for you. One is the output of the command from the
failsafe terminal ( log.gz) and the other is the contents of the
~/.xsession-errors file for my user login using Gnome as my Desktop
environment. (xsession-errors-user-graeme.gz) and the contents of my
.xsession-errors file for my user login using KDE as my Desktop environment
(xsession-errors-user-graeme.txt.gz

There are plenty of errors. I hope this will help.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it.

Kind regards,

Graeme.

Login to desktop using "failsafe session from login screen.
This should
bring up a terminal window on screen.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'failsafe' session so I logged in to a
terminal (type 3) from boot and
executed the command below.

Under login screen, you will be able to see a "Session" option. Select
"failsafe" from the same.

The output to log was as follows:

(gnome-session:2995): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
From type 3/init mode 3 run "xinit" command. This should bring up a
terminal window on screen.

$ xinit

Run gnome as shown below from terminal shown on screen, and
provide any
message printed

/usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session 2>&1
| tee log

re-run this command, and let me know of the output.

Check of ~/.xsession-errors file for information.

I checked that and it had heaps of errors but didn't mean much to me.

I can do it again and attach the contents for you if that will help.
pastebin, or zip and mail me.
