Control-Alt-F1 through Ctl-Alt=F8 no longer works for a specific logon.

Here is the situation. For all logons but one, the ctl-alt-f1 to
ctl-alt-f8 works fine. I know that by renaming the defective home
directory and by copying a virgin home directory to replace the logon
which is defective, that I can laboriously do the repair. Is there a
simpler way to do the repair?
