Hello
Would you post "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" file from the affected system.

I have a Thinkpad and when running Ubuntu Feisty I could plug in a--

Now, xorg starts on the second head, but no window manager. Just a
black screen and the default "X" mouse cursor.
Anyone understand the process that starts the window manager on the
second screen? That would help in debugging.
