[kde-linux] How do I tell Konqueror to startup in / ?

I have compiled KDE 3.5 from source on a Mandrake 10.2 box. I find that
Konqueror always starts up by loading the same web page, an old page..
even though I have the home page set to / as I use Konqueror as a file
browser not a web browser.
I can't find any setting that makes Konqueror default to / on startup.
If I try to startup with
konqueror --profile filebrowser
it partly loads but never outputs any screen.
Any suggestions ?
thanks
Rod
