I don't know why this is happening, but you can also make an application start
by doing the following:
$ cd ~/.kde/Autostart
$ ln -s <path to application> <name of symlink>
This will place a symplink to the application in the Autostart directory. The
application should now start whenever you log into your KDE session.
If for some reason the Autostart directory does not exist, create it.
If this doesn't work either, there must be something quite wrong with your
KDE:)
