[kde] Screen Saver Lock Causes Login Failures

I have set up pam_tally to disable logins after 5 failed attempts. Now
when I enable the screen saver with the lock screen feature every time the
screen is unlocked a login failure is registered, disabling the account
fairly quickly. Is there a work around or other fix for this?
It looks like the screen saver uses kpasswd to authenticate the user, but
kerberos is not being used (passwd/shadow).
Thanks,
