[kde] No Konqi or Kontact

On Ubuntu 7.10, suddenly Konqueror and Kontact have begun refusing to
open. Clicking on the appropriate icons or menu items starts the
cursors feedback (bouncing icon), however that times out after some
time. Typing konqueror in Konsole hangs:
gutsy@gutsy-laptop:~$ konqueror

gutsy@gutsy-laptop:~$

I CTRL-C'ed it after about five minutes. What gives?
