The panel finally looks more normal:

Minimized windows still do not show next to the pager like they used ta'.
Alt- TAB is the only way to restore minimized windows or even know they are
there.

I find that adding a Task Manager widget in the panel shows them. I would have
thought that should be there by default, but apparently not. I suppose that
gives you freedom to put it into a different panel if you wish.
