I took another look at Gwenview, it is similar to KuickShow in most
respects. Selecting 'Properties' from the Side-Bar brings up a dialog very
similar to KuickShow but is missing the MetaInfo tab.
The 'Information' data in the Side-Bar lists 'User Comment:' but this must
be something added by Gwenview and not the EXIF user info metadata.

Bummer.- but thanks for your suggestions.


It sounds as though you don't have kipi-plugins installed. Install them, then
in Gwenview try Plugins > Images > Metadata

I have Gwenview on two PCs. One has kipi-plugins, the other does not.
Both show the meta-info tab in "Properties". The difference is that on
the "with-kipi" PC, there is an additional way of accessing this
information (via the Plugin Menu, as you say in the above post) and if
you access with this method there seems to be more ability to add
metainfo which is not already held in the graphic file.
