OK, so now I understand a bit better. I wonder if there's
more than one issue here, though. This 'jumping about' -
Connie, could it be that you are seeing the result of a sort
order? By default the application icons on the taskbar are
sorted alphabetically. I didn't like this, and found a way
to change it. Unfortunately, at this moment I can't remember
how it was done. I'll look into that tomorrow and report
back.

ah yes -- found it, thank you james

the art is in finding a spot on the taskbar to right click on
that doesn't give a context menu for a running application --
easy enough to do if you close all but one or two apps, but it
only seems obvious after you've found it once


There are microscopic gaps between the icons in the Task Manager. If
you have really good mouse control (which I do not), you may be able
to right-click on one. Any time I've tried it has taken 5 or 6
attempts to hit the right spot. :)
